TRD WRITER’S GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSIONS
Thank you for taking the time to find out more about Take Root Devotions.
Take Root Devotions (TRD) is here to encourage, empower, and equip thinking, seeking, struggling believers who sometimes feel they are “walking on water”. Even though their eyes are on Jesus they sometimes feel they are a simple step away from disaster; in other words, saints who live in this “veil of tears”.
We believe that we’ve been given a unique opportunity to reach Christian seekers (and all who hunger for truth) where they are through Rooted Living and TRD. We want to awaken all who read to the hope in God’s word and God’s presence.
Our devotionals should be something that will challenge and motivate our readers to get more”rooted" in Him and His word. All of our devotionals are written on a voluntary basis and the authors must own the rights to any of the works that are submitted to TRD.
Devotions should be:
Written without a grudge or agenda,
Uplifting and void of condemnation
Reflect holiness that is imbued in love for God and love for people,
Use a Bible verse or be an obvious reflection on traditional Christian ideas,
Contain a photo (optional)
Have a practical take away point.
Ask yourself before you submit, “Do these words speak of real people, real problems and finding practical help in the real presence of God?
Use stories that root the reader in hope, patience, God’s holy Word and prayer,
Try to keep your work focused, full of verbs not adjectives, and within 400-700 words.
Poetry will be considered on the strength of the individual entries. Some verses or lyrics, which do not rise to the level of the art of poetry may be beautiful and heartfelt and entirely worthy of our pages while a submission of poetic genius may not have the spiritual heft we desire. If you are a Gerard Manley Hopkins or Jessica Powers, super. If you are more on the level of Hallmark Cards, God love you. We want to bless our readers. Not every thing will be deemed appropriate, but we’d love to hear from you.
If you have some quotations or prayers from saints, old or new, that you want to share, feel free to bless us.
Devotions need to be written to fall under one of our Channels.
Devotions should be approximately 400-700 words in length, and should be proofed, edited, and ready to go when submitted to our Editors.
Devotions must be submitted in Microsoft Word for Windows format or in Notebook.
At the top right of the document include:
Which channel you're submitting for, your full name, telephone number, URL, word count, and email address.
Authors should also include a short bio (3-5 sentences).
We will try our best to consider all submissions, but unfortunately, we will not be able to include all the devotions that are sent to us.
Please remember that all writing is done on a volunteer basis.
You can email your submissions to our Take Root Devotions Editor, Louis, at [email protected]
